Taking the Mystery Out of the Polygraph Test

You hear about lie detector tests all the time in police investigations, and in some instances a person applying for a job may even have to undergo a polygraph test. The term “polygraph” literally means “many writings” and the name refers to the manner in which selected physiological activities are simultaneously recorded.

Lt. Neil S. Myres, from the Investigative Division of the Dearborn Police Department, will discuss current issues and technological advances in the fascinating field of Forensic Psychophysiology and polygraph testing.

Detroit News reporter George Hunter will discuss his book Limb from Limb, an account of the 2007 killing of Tara Grant in Macomb County. Her husband Stephen Grant was convicted of strangling and mutilating his wife. Her torso was found stored in the garage of the family's Washington Township home. Hunter, who co-wrote the book with Melissa Preddy, interviewed Stephen Grant several times while covering the sensational murder case. Hunter will sell and sign copies of the book after his talk

Innocence Project with Kenneth Wyniemko

Ken Wyniemko was accused and convicted of a crime he did not commit. He spent 10 years in prison but was exonerated of the crime after attorneys from the Innocence Project, a group dedicated to using DNA samples to overturn wrongful convictions, came to his aid and pointed out discrepancies in his case. Hear Ken and his attorneys talk about the experience and what they are doing now to help others in similar situations.
